Principal’s Message

On behalf of the Brookby School Board of Trustees, staff and students, I extend a very warm welcome to you and your family.

Brookby School is a wonderful rural school catering for students from year 0-8.  We are proud of our long history and unique rural character, mindful of protecting our beautiful environment whist accepting the development and benefits of having the city close at hand.

Our Brookby Curriculum is framed by the New Zealand Curriculum and our response to current research around what initiatives have the largest positive impact on student progress and achievement.  We believe all students are active participants in their learning and should have all the necessary information about their personal progress and achievement to assist them in their learning.  We expect all our students to be “assessment capable” – able to answer three key questions about their learning –

‘Where am I going?’, ‘How am I going?’ and ‘Where to next?’.

Our school has a nurturing, positive environment where students are encouraged to accept responsibility and develop the knowledge, skills and attitude s which lead to life long learning.  We are fortunate to have highly competent, talented teachers who work collaboratively to best meet the educational and pastoral needs of every learner in our school.  We have a focus on quality literacy and numeracy programmes in all classrooms and we encourage our students to strive for personal excellence in all learning areas of the curriculum

At Brookby we place great importance on our relationships with parents, family and whānau, working together to ensure that all children reach their potential.  We believe that a happy and supportive learning environment is key to motivation for learning.

We welcome your consideration of Brookby as the school of choice for your child.

Kind regards

Matthew Cooke, Principal
